Uniform Policy 2026-2027
St. Francis of Assisi School maintains a strong tradition of school uniforms that reflect school pride, modesty, and appropriate regard for personal appearance. Every student is expected to be in uniform every day. Failure to cooperate with the uniform policy may result in uniform infractions; chronic uniform infractions will result in the loss of a non-uniform day.
New uniforms are available through School Uniforms by Tommy Hilfiger and Lands' End. Used uniforms are available for purchase through the St. Francis of Assisi Parent Association.

Expectations
Parents are expected to help children keep the school uniform code. At St. Francis of Assisi School we wear uniforms because:
- They represent our Catholic school image and tradition.
- They discourage differences brought about by various income levels, thus eliminating unnecessary peer pressure and allowing the attention of the students to be directed to learning.
- They assure that the dress standards of the school emphasize neatness.
- They promote an image of pride both at and away from school and help create a positive climate of discipline and responsibility.
- They are less costly to families and more easily maintained.
- They promote an attitude of moderation and modesty.
General Requirements
Uniforms are required on every school day except on non-uniform days.
Shirts should be tucked in when wearing a school sweater, sweatshirt or vest or if the shirt is longer than the hip.
Coats, non-uniform sweatshirts or sweaters, and hats are not part of the uniform and may not be worn inside school buildings.

PLEASE NOTE: The Victoria Plaid skirts and jumpers are available through our provider, Uniforms by Tommy Hilfiger.

Dress Code
Uniforms are required on every school day except on non-uniform days. The following guidelines apply to both uniform and non-uniform days:
- All clothing fits, not too tightly or extremely loose.
- There should be no holes, tears or other signs of excessive wear.
- Pants and skirts must be hemmed.
- Shirts are long enough to cover the midriff- no exposed skin at the stomach.
- No deep, low cut necklines
- Shorts, jumpers, skirts, and skorts no shorter than 2 inches above the knee.
- Pants and skirts are worn at the waist, which is above the hips.
- Hair ornaments worn must not be distracting.
- Makeup and accessories should be moderate and appropriate for school.
- Hair is a natural hair color and must be kept clean and neat. Unusual hairstyles, such as mohawks, are not considered acceptable. Hair must be out of the student's eyes.
- No facial piercing of any kind is allowed.
- Long dangly or hooped earrings (larger than a nickel in diameter) pose the risk of injury and may not be worn to school.
- No visible tattoos or other markings are allowed.
- Nails should be of moderate length and not interfere with school activities such as writing, typing, lab work, sports, or pose safety concerns for the student or others.
Non-uniform Days
Occasionally the school will announce non-uniform days. It is the parents’ responsibility to send their children in appropriate attire for school. Dress on these days must be neat, modest, and appropriate for school:
- Tank tops or spaghetti straps must be covered by an appropriate shirt.
- T-shirts with sayings or designs which advertise drugs, alcohol, or any other inappropriate subject matter or sexual innuendos are not permitted.
- No exposure of the mid-driff or undergarments is allowed.
- Uggs and low-heeled boots are only allowed on non-uniform days. On non-uniform PE days, students should bring athletic shoes to change into for PE class.
Any student who does not meet the dress code requirements will be sent to the office. Students will be loaned appropriate clothing or parents or guardians may be called to bring their child appropriate clothing. Interpretations of the policy are at the discretion of the school staff.

Our Parents' Association hosts a Used Uniform sale twice a year in August and January. Many uniform items including jumpers, skirts, pants, sweaters and sweatshirts are on sale. For additional information about our Used Uniform sale or to donate, please contact Aoife Groppo at [email protected].
All clothing and personal items should be clearly marked with the child's name. Marked clothing is returnable. Lost and found inquiries are handled through the school office. Items not claimed are donated to charity at the end of each month.
