Our goal is that your child(ren) are kept save in the event of a natural disaster such as a major earthquake, disabling storm or any other emergency situation which might occur during the school day. Since 1994, we have had an earthquake protocol in place which would keep children comfortable for up to two-to-three days. This plan involves written procedures for staff, drills and drill reviews, storage of student and staff personal emergency kits and storage of additional equipment in the earthquake “bin” located alongside the kindergarten classrooms. We will do everything we can to reunify parents and guardians with their child(ren) as quickly as possible.
Personal Emergency Kits (PEP Kits)
We ask assistance of all parents to provide each child with a personal emergency preparedness kit, also referred to as a PEP Kit. Suggested items for the PEP Kit are listed in the link below.
In the event of a natural disaster or school lock-down, PLEASE DO NOT CALL THE SCHOOL. We will need to keep telephone lines clear for communication with emergency services. We will keep you informed via the following channels:
If we have been notified by the local authorities to put this procedure in place, we will NOT allow anyone into or out of the school buildings until given the “all clear” notification by the authorities. Although children often have their own cell phones, please refrain from calling or texting them because this makes some children anxious or upset and we must have their full attention during these situations.
