ART  - Tuesdays                                                                                                      K- 3rd Grade

This semester we are offering a new format of Art lessons and we are going back to 1.5 hour length.

Students will learn basic art techniques that will help them to see and draw angles, curves and shapes to improve their skills. Students will progress from simple contour drawings to paintings and sculptures using clay and mixed media. Subject matter and mediums will vary in order to allow for the development of skill building. Students will also have an opportunity to take turns creating on the brand new pottery wheel. Different projects will be taught with each 6 week session.

This semester we are offering a new format of Art lessons and we are going back to 1.5 hour length.

"Thursday art classes are for students in grades 3-8 who are ready to develop new techniques and build upon their skills. Students will practice techniques that will help them to easily draw from observation and imagination. Media explored may include colored pencils, markers, graphite, pastel, watercolor and acrylic paint.  Within each 6 week session students will progress from drawing and painting to sculpture.  Using clay students will learn hand building techniques from pinch pots to coil building, slab construction and more.  Students will also have an opportunity to take turns creating on the brand new pottery wheel.  Different projects will be taught with each 6 week session."

Jan 7 -  Brownies- who doesn't love brownies- and not all are chocolate!  4 SPOTS LEFT
Jan 14 -  France- there is a reason that the French word for food lover is used all over the world
Jan 21 -   Oranges- Sunshine in a fruit.  
Jan 28 -  Eclairs and cream puffs- possibly the most delicious of all pastries- we'll make sweet and savory  
                        versions.
 
Feb 4 -  Bananas (and maybe some plantains for fun). Called "possibly the perfect food". 
Feb 11 -   Valentine's menu- the NOT candy version.
Feb 18 -   New England- a distinctive regional cuisine
Feb 25 -  Scones.  Not just for the Puyallup Fair.  We'll make a variety of delicious scones.
 
 
March 3 -   Handpies.  Small but tasty goodies.
March 10 -  Camp Food for the kitchen.  Because s'mores are too good to have only at the campfire.
March 17 -  Ireland.  The land of leprechauns makes wonderful food to celebrate St. Patrick's Day.
March 24 -  Rice- we will try out recipes from around the world that use rice

March 31 - make up class for Jan 14 class due to snow day

D&D for Middle School - Mondays                                                                        6-8th Grade

We have found a DM and now we can build on what our students have learned the last semester. This is an opportunity for our middle school students to get together and play an actual game of Dungeons & Dragons! Please note that this is a 2-hour class which will allow students to really enjoy the game.

HANDCRAFTING MONDAYS - Mondays                                                               K-8th Grade

Time to get crafty and create some awesome creations and keepsakes!

 

Jan 6 -  Snowflake tote bag- our last no -sew applique class made GORGEOUS totes, so we are going to do it again with a slightly
              different technique.
Jan 13 -  Loom Knitting- beginners will start baby hats, and returning students will start a lacy cowl scarf on the extra large loom.  (7
               dollars extra at first class for a loom or bring your own).  Loom knitting can be used for community service, so this class  
               rocks!               2 - 8th Grade       $11 (for Loom knitting part 1)                                                             
Jan 27 - Loom Knitting part two.  We'll hopefully finish our projects, maybe start another!  2 - 8th Grade
Feb 3 - Jewelry studio- chains again.  The last chain class made fab jewelry, but there are MORE things we can do and try.  
               2 - 8th Grade
Feb 10 - Crochet class part one.  We'll make a coffee coozey, maybe start a dishcloth or some other project.  Beginning students or    
              returning welcome.            2 - 8th Grade.                $11 (for Crochet part 1)
Feb 24 - Crochet class part two.  And we'll crochet some more....        2 - 8th Grade
Mar 2 -  Spring flower banner.  We'll encourage those blooms to hurry up and arrive, making a banner covered in flowers
Mar 9 -  Micro mosaic jewelry- no tools needed.  All you need to bring is steady and patient hands.
Mar 16 - Books will be our inspiration for this class- I can't wait to do this one!
Mar 23 -  Jewelry studio - SURPRIZE!  We are going to do something really fun!  2 - 8th Grade

Jan 10 - Embroidery- $10 class to celebrate the New Year and say thank you!  2-8th grade 
Jan 17 -Jewelry studio- no tools needed.  We are going to make GORGEOUS memory wire wrap bracelets.  Even if your student has never done a jewelry studio before, this might be the one to take! (any age welcome but PATIENCE needed).
Jan 24 -Candle making.  We may not be dipping, but we are going to make some terrific candles to take home.
Jan 31 -Valentine's Day gifts!  Shhh, surprises with hearts and love.
Feb 7 -  Valentine's Day candies- new ones planned to delight!
Feb 21 -Ocean studio- all our inspiration will be from the deep waters.  $16
Feb 28 - Jewelry studio- another surprise.  We do the same projects I do with adult students and results are AMAZING!

March 6 -  St. Patrick's inspired crafts.  There will be green and gold and rainbows and clovers and ....  $16
Mar 20 - Fabric Origami.  These are so beautiful- they will blow minds.  
Mar 27 - Harry Potter inspired crafts- part 3.  Because we didn't get them all done and some of the coolest ones are still coming.  Magic!

Hogwarts School is back for the second semester! 

Students will create dragon eggs and then create a book about the care and feeding of their dragons.

We will also create a different kinds of wand as well as more potions and fun.  
 

This is a truly magical class taught by our very own Hogwarts enthusiast, Ms. LeRoy. The class is loaded with STEM focused activities that bring the Harry Potter world to life. All Wizards are encouraged to bring and wear their robes.

Price includes all materials for projects and experiments.

We are offering two sessions this semester to better accommodate students’ schedules. This class includes not only advanced building projects but also coding them to create functional objects. Projects from the previous sessions include a functional robotic hand, a printer etc.

 

The students would learn (from the Lego website):

  •     Use different reasoning approaches to evaluate evidence and develop theories
  •     Create and work with data to solve problems and draw conclusions
  •     Learn to identify problems and use appropriate tools to find and communicate solutions
  •     Refine their use of science and engineering practices to solve problems, explore ideas, and evaluate solutions

Our Taekwondo teacher is BACK!

Chris Himor is an experienced instructor and owner of the "Counterforce Taekwondo" studio (they just recently relocated to the space where Page2Books used to be). He is great at working with kids, teaching them respect and perseverance while making this a fun physical activity!
