Chapter 8 Test
This is an open note, open book test. You can use a calculator.
In person students will complete the test in class and turn in the test and a separate page with your work if it doesn't fit on the test.
Distance learners need to complete the test in the Kami document and turn in a photo of your work.

Question 12 is optional.  If you answer it correctly the points add on to your score and you can exceed standards if the rest of the test is correct. (If you get it wrong, it does not count.)

7GB Solve real-life and mathematical problems involving angle measure, area, surface area, or volume
7GB4 Know the formulas for the area and circumference of a circle and use them to solve problems

Check your answers for #2 - 22 even in the Chapter 8 Review. Make corrections as needed and turn in a photo of your corrected work here. 


Chapter 8 has many formulas that you need to find the perimeter and area of different figures. Today in class we will be making a formula page that includes all of the needed formulas and an example of how to use each formula. 
Turn in a photo of your formula page today by 1 pm.

Do pages 345 - 347 #2 - 22 even 
Write the question, include the formula(s) you use, show your work, and note the answer with units.

To find the area of a composite figure:
First, identify the simple geometric figures in the composite figure. 
Second, identify the formulas you need to find the areas of the different simple geometric figures and right them down.
Third, rewrite the formulas with the information you know about the dimensions of the figures to find the areas of each simple geometric figure.
Fourth, add the different areas together and note the answer. Remember to include square units for area. 


Do page 342 - 343 #9,10, 12, 13, and 14.
Write the question number and then show the four steps to find the area.
Turn in a photo of the assignment. 

Do IXL 7AA5 to a smart score of 80 or higher to meet standards or to 90 or higher to exceed standards. Try 7AA16 on semicircles. If you get stuck when the problems get harder, it is okay to stop.

View your corrected test in Kami to see which questions are circled. These are the questions you missed. Start a new page in your math notebook to use for your corrections. Make a note of which questions you need to correct at the top of a new page in your math notebook and then begin your corrections on this page in class.

When you are asked to draw a triangle or quadrilateral, label it with the angles and/or side lengths noted in the question. 

For 12 and 13 you need to use the paper copy of the textbook so that the lengths of the objects will be the same as they are in paper textbook. 

If you don't have your paper copy of the textbook available and you will be in class on Tuesday, you could save those two problems to do in class on Tuesday. Or, you can use information about #9 to make images on the screen the right size and then do 12 and 13. 

In #9, the top length (longest one) is 3.0 cm and the bottom one is 1. 7 cm.

We will begin class by going over #18, many people missed part or all of this question.

For each missed question write the number and the question on your paper, show your steps, and give the answer.
Complete corrections for all questions missed and explain why you missed each question. It can be helpful to also write what you needed to remember to answer the question correctly.

When you are done with all of your corrections, show a parent your test and corrections and get a parent signature on the correction sheet. Take a photo of your corrections (or two photos if they are on different pages) and turn in the photo with this correction assignment.

(Having a proportional relationship is the same thing as showing direct variation).

Then do 7K4 to review 5.6 which asks you to look at a graph and determine if it is proportional (which is the same thing as showing direct variation) and if it is you find the constant of proportionality which is just interpreting what the slope means in the given situation. (Interpreting the slope means you state the slope value and include the units from the graph.)

We will work though page 202 #19 as an example of how to do a real life graphing problem, figure out if it shows direct variation, and then write an equation. Turn in a photo of your work on the graph side of your white board (or graph paper.)

At 10:15 preview the assignment for today (Activity 1 and 2 on pages 192 and 193). You have a Kami document for it. If you have a printer at home, print it out so that you can write on it in class.

Think through what you need to do in activity 1 to convert from feet per second to miles per hour. Look up any information you need so that you come to class with a plan about how to do this activity.

You can either print the first two pages of this document and use the printout to do the assignment or complete it electronically as a Kami document. You will work with a partner or in a group of 3, but each person needs to turn it in.

It is okay to use a calculator to check your paper and pencil work, but I still need to see that you know how to approach and solve the questions.

When you are done with the quiz, revisit the cinnamon roll pattern puzzle from Wednesday and see if you can figure out the pattern. Hint, call the number of cases x, then write an expression for how many cinnamon rolls there are that includes the variable x. You need to use an exponent, addition, and parentheses in your expression. We will discuss the puzzle in class on Friday.

There are no Zoom classes today. You should still devote your time from 10:15 - 11:15 to do math today (or devote an hour to math at another time.)

This week we will be reviewing sixth grade IXL skills about fractions and decimals to help us begin Chapter 2 on rational numbers. Rational numbers include fractions and decimals as well as integers which we learned about in Chapter 1. Monday's assignment includes IXL work focussed on fractions. Complete these additional 6th grade IXL skills this week to help you convert between fractions and decimals and put fractions and decimals in numerical order form least to greatest.

Check your answer and change it if you got it wrong. You can check two times.
You can use a calculator to check your division when you are changing fractions to decimals. You will see a four function calculator while you are doing the online assignment and you can use this to check your division.

At 10:15 pull up your test in Kami to see which questions are circled. These are the questions you missed. Get a sheet of notebook paper to use for your corrections. For each missed question write the number and the question on your paper, show your steps, and give the answer. We will go over many of the frequently missed questions in class today.

Complete corrections for all questions missed and explain why you missed each question. It can be helpful to also write what you needed to remember to answer the question correctly.

When you are done with all of your corrections, show a parent your test and corrections and get a parent signature on the correction sheet. Take a photo of your corrections (or two photos if they are on different pages) and turn in the photo with this correction assignment.

See the attached correction directions for examples of how to explain why you missed a question and for an explanation of how test corrections count.

At 10:15 view the attached math puzzles and solve one or both in your math notebook. We will begin class with a breakout time to discuss the puzzles in your group of 2 or 3 people and then return to the main class to share out.
The math work due Tuesday is to do IXL 6I3, 6I4, and 6I6 to a smart score of 80 or higher to review fractions. This will help us prepare to begin Chapter 2 on Thursday.

Use the text boxes to type and the drawing tools as needed to show your steps and answer the questions on the test. Put your answer on the line for the numbered question. This test covers 3 skills. If you meet standards on each skill you will score a 9. Remember to save and submit when you are done.

At 10:15 Use the posted answers for 1.2 and 1.3 to check your answers. Answers are posted as the last attached file in the assignment for 1.2 and 1.3 due today.
(Either unsubmit your work and then make correction marks on your paper by circling the numbers you missed using the Kami shape tool or drawing tool.
Or write down the numbers you missed in your notebook so that you can ask questions about the ones that you missed.)


Use your textbook do the Chapter 1 Review # 1- 23 odd and #29. Write the question, any steps you do, and your answer in your composition notebook. These questions can then serve as examples for how to do each type of question when you do the test on Friday. If you feel like you need more practice with a particular type of question, do the even numbers too. You have answers for all questions.

When you finish, use the answer document posted below to check your answers. Be sure to mark the ones you missed wrong so that you know you missed them. You may also want to make corrections so that your notebook shows correct examples of how to do each type of question.

The IXL skills for this week are 7 C16 and 7 C19. They will give you more practice with the skills of multiplying and dividing integers and will help you prepare for Friday's test on Chapter 1. This week the skills are due on Friday.

Then watch the "For Students: Using Kami...." video starting at 1:20 to learn how to use it (if you haven't already done so this year.)
Open the 1.2 and 1.3 Kami documents and do one problem in each so that you know you can use them before we begin class at 10:30.

You will have time in breakout rooms and the main class to do these review exercises. If you don't finish them in class, continue them and finish by Thursday morning. We will go over these questions in class on Thursday.

On Monday, September 21st at 10:15 (before our class starts) watch the attached video about how to multiply positive and negative integers when there are exponents and parentheses involved. Take notes in your math notebook. Then revisit the exercises for 1.4 on page 26 and do problems 32 - 37. We will go over these at the start of class along with questions from the 1.5 exercises due Monday.

After going over these questions in class you will have time to start the BIM quiz on 1.4 and 1.5 which we are using as a review. You will see the answers to the quiz as soon as you submit it. You need to do three or more questions in the quiz before leaving class. Note that numbers 6,7, and 10 are more difficult than the rest and you will exceed standard if you get questions like this correct on the test.

Sometimes people forget to mark turned in for math since you are often doing skills in IXL or doing questions in the online textbook. It is very helpful to mark all completed assignments as turned in. That way your to-do list in Google Classroom is accurate.

I just got an email asking how to submit the BIM assignment. When you have answered all 10 questions, then click on your name at the top right of the screen and you will see options that show beneath your name.  One of them is submit. Click submit. 

Each day for class you should have your math textbook, a math composition notebook that you use only for math, and a pen or pencil that you use to take notes. Different colored pens and or highlighters are helpful for taking detailed, visually appealing notes. A calculator will be helpful for some classes. (You also need your computer that has a camera and microphone to join and participate in the Zoom class.)

You will need to use your notebook to take notes in class and from instructional videos you watch at home. You will also use your composition notebook to do some of the math problems assigned to do outside of class. For some assignments you will need to take a photo of your work and submit it in Google Classroom. For this type of assignment, you will be asked to write the question number, the question, show your steps, and give the answer. You will also need to submit photos of your work for many quizzes and tests.

There will also be textbook assignments that you complete online where you are asked to type in your answer and then correct it if necessary.
