Volunteer Requirements

THANK YOU FOR VOLUNTEERING & SHARING YOUR TIME & TALENTS!  As part of our commitment to working with children, all employees and volunteers need to be in compliance with our Safe Environment Program.

The Archdiocese of Seattle has a long commitment to the protection of children, youth and vulnerable adults.  For years, steps have been taken to assure the safety of those who serve in our parishes, schools and agencies.  This office was established in 2007 to assist the Archbishop in ensuring those commitments of safety are implemented while offering assistance to those who are suffering in the aftermath of abuse.

St. Francis of Assisi School has a mandate from the Archdiocese of Seattle that all volunteers obtain and stay
current with the required pieces of this Virtus Program.

SAFE ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:  School Volunteers

All volunteers must do the following:
  • Register with Virtus
  • Complete a Background check 
  • Agree and Sign Church Personnel Policies 
  • Complete Virtus training

First Time Registering for VIRTUS Account:

Go to VIRTUS Online:   https://www.virtusonline.org/virtus/

Click First Time Registrant -- green button on left
Click on Beginning the Registration Process
Click on drop down menu and choose: Seattle, WA (Archdiocese) from the organization list
Have you previously registered with Virtus? -- Choose NO
Virtus Online Page à  Create a User ID and Password
Complete registration information (name, contact information, email)
Primary Location:  St. Francis of Assisi School (Seahurst) <-- this is IMPORTANT
Role:  Parent Volunteer
Title or Function:  Examples -- Classroom Volunteer, Field Day Volunteer, EDP Volunteer
 
You will be prompted to complete the following THREE tasks:
● Background Check (renewed every 3 years)
● Read and electronically agree to the Church Personnel Policies
● Register and complete online or in-person Virtus training (renewal needed every 3 years)
      • Training must be completed within 30 days from submitting your Background Check
 
IMPORTANT for ALL Users:
Your Background Check must be CLEARED before you can work in the classroom or on campus. 
This can take 24-72 hours, so please complete this part IMMEDIATELY.  
 
● You must be signed up to take the initial Virtus training
      • You have 30 days from a cleared Background Check to complete this training.
      • You may work with students during this 30 day grace period as long as you are signed up for training.
 

 

 

Initial Virtus Training:

You have TWO options:  Online Module or In-Person
In-Person Training:  Choose and complete one of the sessions from the in-person training options
Online Training:  (This is NOT a Zoom)
● Log into VIRTUS Online (linked)
● Click on:  HOME Tab
● Current Training Box:  Click on Register for Upcoming Session
● Scroll to the bottom of the list of in-person sessions
● Choose:  Protecting God's Children for Adults (Online Training)
      • Format is mini modules and question/response
      • Class is approximately :90 minutes long
 
 
Current or Inactive Virtus Account Users:
● Log into VIRTUS Online (linked)
● Go to the box LOGIN FOR EXISTING ACCOUNTS located on left sidebar
● Enter your User ID and Password **
● Background Check:  Follow prompts to renew your Background Check
● Update or Complete Virtus Training:  Click on green tab TRAINING to view needed updates
 
 
** Please note:  If you do not have your login or password information, please DO NOT create another account!  This will delay the progress of giving you credit for any previous classes taken and causes confusion regarding your identity.  
  • Click on "Need Login Information?" and follow the instructions.
